You make a valid point, however if your going to present such a bill or idea and have it go anywhere, work on your language and your grammer. I would buy a hybrid if there was one that suited my lifestyle, I need a car with some good cargo space and I sure as hell aint driving a ford or a Prius, sorry but there for fags. So its not just the goverments issue, the car manufacturers need to kick thier butts into gear and get some real working vehicles out there that are practical, and not ugly *coughcough* Prius *cough*. Face the facts, its a hideous car, it needs some more aggresive lines.

I am a lifelong Republican and vehemently oppose socialism, high taxes, over-regulation of business, and all other government intrusions into our private and economic lives.

I opposed Comrade Granholm hiking our state income tax from 3.9% to 4.35% recently. And I'd like to see state government CUT spending substantially to eliminate the deficit, not raise taxes. We should then cut further and phase out the state income tax entirely.

But until and unless we eliminate the income tax, I support income-tax credits for people who buy highly fuel-efficient vehicles.

Right now that means hybrid gas/electric cars like my family's Prius and Ford Escape Hybrid. In two years it will mean "plug-in" hybrids that can run almost entirely on their electric batteries for a 30-50-mile range.

It is not just "libs" who think it's worthwhile to encourage the phase-out of internal-combustion vehicles. Don't be a shortsighted fool. If you care about the safety and security of America, you know we have to STOP SENDING $400 BILLION TO OUR ENEMIES TO BUY OIL EVERY DAMN YEAR.

I'd rather give my money to American and Japanese car companies to buy a "more expensive" hybrid than to the oil-exporting countries.

Who are the biggest oil exporters? Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, Venezuela, Qatar, Nigeria, etc. Almost every one of them is an Islamic regime that funds people who kill and terrorize Americans and work to convert or subjugate non-Muslims the world over.

The major oil exporting regimes which are not Muslim -- such as Russia and Venezuela -- are communist or other authoritarian dictatorships that oppress their people and threaten America's interests and influence.

Also, last time I checked, we libertarians and conservatives have children -- in fact, we tend to have more children than the Lefties by a long shot -- and we need clear air and water for them to live healthy, happy lives.

What point do you prove by loudly criticizing hybrid-drivers and hybrid-promoters as "libs", while poisoning our air and water with your retarded f------g 20th-century vehicle?

Hybrids use so much less gas that their widespread adoption will reduce air pollution noticeably.

Plug-in hybrids will use even less gas than regular hybrids, resulting in even less tailpipe emissions.

By the way, think about the benefits of plug-in hybrids too. In two and a half years at most, GM will be selling a plug-in mid-sized sedan (the Chevy Volt), as will Toyota (the next-generation Prius). Both will be assembled in the USA: the Volt in Michigan, and the Prius in Mississippi.

Where will the electricity come from to power the millions of new plug-in vehicle? Hopefully from nuclear power, not from the deadly coal that we use to provide more than half our power today.

I regularly write to my federal and state reps to DEMAND that they permit the construction of new nuke plants to replace coal-fired plants. When's the last time you get off your ass and wrote to your reps in favor of nuke power? Or are you too busy attacking hybrid drivers and people who want hybrid tax credits as "libs"?

----------------

In short, state income-tax credits for fuel-efficient vehicles will lead to more people buying those vehicles. That leads to :

1) cleaner air for us and our kids,

(2) far less profit for the towelheads and other murdering scum who currently sell us much of our oil, and

(3) new factory jobs in America as GM and Toyota et al. build hybrids and plug-ins here.

Instead of opposing hybrid tax credits, focus on government programs and subsidies that accomplish nothing, or are even counterproductive. That describes most government programs!

I absolutely agree with you. I know so many people who just sit back and complain and do nothing but gripe about how hybrids are a waste of time. Some people will never change. It's nice to hear the truth every now and then.

6) Subsidizing Toyota [by Anonymous Citizen on January 10, 2008]
This bill would let Michigan car buyers claim a $1,000 credit for buying a hybrid-drive car.

Why would Michigan taxpayers want to pay someone for buying a car with a particular kind of drivetrain?

There's no good reason, but it's easy to see why a legislator would introduce this bill: probably Rep. Sak has had a visit from the Toyota Motor Company or its dealers, and probably they left a fat check.

Lots of auto makers sell hybrids, but the overwhelming majority are Toyotas. If the state begins handing out $1,000 checks to every hybrid buyer, what do you think Toyota dealers will do to every deal for a Prius? The price will rise by exactly $1,000. The dealers will get even richer, and Michigan taxpayers will foot the bill. The Prius buyer will never see a dime of the tax credit.

The more hybrids the better the environment.
The U.S. car industry has made a choice to lag behind. Ten years ago those chose to sell and create Hummers while Toyota was selling its first Prius. Gee, if I have grandchildren that I care about I think I would buy what ever car by who ever cares enough to do something.
P.S. You can actually get rich doing good things for the environment if that is the most important thing to you.

Quit hugging that tree so you can see the forest.

"The U.S. car industry has made a choice to lag behind. Ten years ago those chose to sell and create Hummers while Toyota was selling its first Prius"

Business's are there to make money(I know this is evil to you libs) and when the folks in your country want hummers and you build little hybrids that look like clown cars you are going to be in bankrupcy court before the end of the day. All you genius libbys think that you can switch from big vehicles (which the majority of freedom loving Americans want) to go carts at the drop of a hat. Wrong.
If you want to fix a big problem lets start drilling for oil, building nuke plants and my favorite, figuring out a way to process liberals/socialists into motor oil.
"You can actually get rich doing good things for the environment if that is the most important thing to you."
Not without the iron fist of government forcing the masses to do it your way.

...Sounds a little bigoted, but okay. Though drilling for oil will just deplete what few resources we have left, and once we're out of that, I guess we can go to converting people we don't like for superficial reasons into fossil fuels. But what happens when we eventually run out of all those resources? We will, after all. Switching to nuclear power is a good choice, but that also leaves highly volatile chemicals and radioactive waste on our already poisoned planet.

Independent research groups have proven time and again that, while maybe not the sole cause, emissions from fossil fuels and coal power plants have greatly contributed to the effects of global warming. Just something to think about when America continues to spend all their time at the local gas station. And the bonus effect? We're just putting more money into the oil companies' pockets, taking said funds and assets out of the economy. The whole time this goes on, we sink deeper into a depression, one that can be argued to have been created by Republicans and conservatives being in control of the Oval office for eight years. After all, Clinton was a Democrat, and look what he was able to do for our country? And if that's a biased response, look at FDR. Apparently we haven't learned from the past, given the examples we're given to follow.

Just food for thought. If you don't want to believe it, that's fine. Just know that Hybrid cars really aren't that bad of an idea; they will certainly be getting a lot of press attention, to say the least. Hopefully, there will be enough people with sense enough to convert and save us from our dependency on things that can't last forever.
